Development and applications of fast timing MPGDs.
Research on Micropattern Gaseous Detectors (MPGD) has known major breakthroughs in recent years, a.o. introducing resistive materials to build compact spark protected devices, improving rate capability etc. We propose here a new type of MPGD aiming at reducing the time resolution to 100 ps by means of competing ionization processes in different drift regions. These fast timing MPGDs can have applications in both medical physics (TOF-PET) as well as detectors for calorimetery and muon systems at future colliders such as FCC. The MPGD Fast Timing Applications (MPGD-FaTimA) project aims at designing, developing and characterizing of such fast timing MPGDs with an emphasis on applications in both fields.
