Vapour cloud phenomena observed on Frascati Tokamak Upgrade (FTU).

One of the main problems with future fusion reactor is the high heat load to the divertor region. In the framework of the liquid metals research the use of materials, such as lithium and tin, have been taken into account as plasma facing components. During the experiments in FTU a singular event was observed: a sudden decrease of the temperature of the liquid metal surface was recorded followed by an increase of the bolometric signals. This experimental data and a simple model developed to investigate the vapour shielding phenomena will be presented.
