One year of FBG-based structural health monitoring of the central beam pipe in the CMS experiment at CERN.

In this report, we show the new structural monitoring project of the central beam pipe of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment, at CERN. To perform these challenging measurements we design and implement an optical monitoring system based on Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors technology. This system represents the ideal solution to realize a reliable and accurate sensing system to be used 24/7 in the harsh environment of High Energy Physics experiments. The mechanical complexity of the structure is described and the temperature and strain measurements data recorded during the LHC operation throughout 2015 are discussed.
