GafChromic films: impact of calibration accuracy for radiation therapy dosimetric purpose.

The different applications of GafChromic films in high-energy radiation therapy (patient specific Quality Assurance and Linac Quality Control) might need different levels of accuracy. In this study different approaches for EBT3 GafChromic films are compared to establish a proper correspondence between NetOptical Density and delivered doses. Three different irradiation schemes with single and multichannel calibration are considered. A detailed mathematical description the overall accuracy is proposed. Tests for each application purpose are developed. Finally, a cost-benefit analysis is performed for each calibration procedure to establish a balance between the desired level of accuracy and the time spent to achieve it.
