High-field plasmonics.

High-contrast intense $(I>10^{18}$ W/cm${}^{2}$) laser systems allow to investigate laser interaction with structured plasmas. In this contribution we report on recent numerical and experimental results concerning the observation of plasmonic effects ($i.e.$ involving Surface Plasmons ) in relativistic laser interaction with grating targets. Although Plasmonics is a mature research field, the study of surface plasmons at high field intensities is largely unexplored. Electron acceleration mediated by surface plasmons and surface-plasmon enhanced harmonic emission from irradiated gratings will be discussed. Some final comments on numerical simulations of structured plasmas in other scenarios ($e.g.$ nanostructured low-density foam targets) will be given.
